Lawrence Wagner has joined the Law Project as a senior attorney, working with homeless individuals and families on housing and education litigation.
Inspired by CCH’s integrated model of addressing issues such as housing instability, he wanted to advocate for homeless individuals.
“I firmly believe housing is a fundamental right and I like the way CCH approaches housing from a more holistic standpoint,” Lawrence said. “We’re working with people who are homeless and at a great need for advocacy with litigation, policy reform, and outreach. CCH meets people where they are, and provides services that will help them in different areas.”
Prior to CCH, Lawrence was a senior attorney at LAF (Legal Assistance Foundation), where he worked for 13 years. He served the past six years in the Housing Practice Group, advocating on behalf of tenants in subsidized housing and those seeking subsidized housing.
Lawrence also serves as a content editor for Illinois Legal Aid Online and is active with the Cook County Tenant Advocates Consortium and the Chicago Bar Association’s Legal Aid Committee. He graduated from DePaul University College of Law in 2004, where he received the CALI Award in Race, Racism and U.S. Law.
Prior to his legal career, Lawrence worked almost nine years at the Northern Trust Company, for its Personal Trust, Treasury Management, and Banking Services Groups. He holds a bachelor’s degree in operations management from DePaul.
A veteran, Lawrence served in Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve.
